Vaginoplasty (Reduction/Repair)

 

This is also known as vaginal refashioning, vagina design or vangioplasty. Weakness of vaginal muscle may be caused by age, history of difficult vaginal deliveries, multiple vaginal deliveries and after menopause. It may be associated with inability to control urine or leakage if the urinary bladder is affected as a result of weak muscles. Vaginal weakness can affect sex life , reduce or abolish the sensation during the act of intercourse. Some women might complain of weak pelvis and lower backache.

There are two ways for vaginal reconstruction:

1. The Surgical operation to repair, strengthen the vaginal muscles and physically narrowing the vagina.

2. Our Medically developed technique by using injectable fillers underneath the vaginal skin thus narrowing the vagina. It has been successful with our patients. Needless to say that this technique is quicker, cheaper and expected to last 1-2 years (surgery is expected to last 4-7 years).

We had some patients commenting that they felt as if their pelvis was tied up and strengthened after the operation. They mentioned that they can stand for many hours feeling less tired and less back pain.

Also this surgery is also performed for cosmetic reasons when there is a lack of sensation or grip during the sexual intercourse and is very rewarding to both partners when they feel one another again.

The aim of the operation is to reconstruct, reduce the size of the vagina and strengthen the pelvic floor muscles. We have been performing this operations as a day case and can be under Local anesthetics and patient can go home after about an hour. All other clinic perform this operation under general anaesthesia with varying length of hospital stay which will of course add to the cost. The operation is performed from inside the vagina. All sutures are dissolvable with no stitches to be removed. A small skin incision on the perineum is necessary and usually is repaired by using suture underneath the skin.

Simple pain killer might be needed during the first 2-3 days. If there is any bruising, it should disappear in matter of few days.

There is no special post operative care. You do not need ice packs after operation as some clinic advice. You can start having sexual intercourse after about two weeks or so (We heard that some clinics advise to avoid sex for 2-3 months).
