Lines and wrinkles
Frown lines, forehead lines and crow's feet are caused by the constant movement of muscles underneath the skin. For example, a wrinkle in the area between the eyebrows may appear and persist because of the repeated, often unconscious, action of frowning. This is the same for lines by the angle of the eyes, often called crow's feet, which are caused by smiling or squinting. Raising the eyebrows often result in forehead lines. If dynamic wrinkles make you look older than you are, Botox injections can smooth the appearance of worry lines, frown lines, laugh lines, crow's feet and other dynamics wrinkles these out and give you a more youthful and pleasant appearance.
Causes of Wrinkles
Movement of brow muscles causes the skin to crease and as the skin becomes less elastic a person ages, skin undergoes significant changes such as becomes thin with less fat layer underneath and the skin appears dry and scaly. On to sunlight and Cigarette smoke produces oxygen-free radicals and is known to accelerate wrinkles and ageing skin disorders.
Gravity exacerbates the situation, contributing to the formation of jowls and drooping eyelids. (Eyebrows, surprisingly, move up as a person ages).
Air pollution. Ozone, a common air pollutant, may be a particular problem for the skin. Rapid weight loss can also cause wrinkles by reducing the volume of fat cells that cushion the face.
Frown lines (those between the eyebrows) and crow's feet (lines that radiate from the corners of the eyes) appear to develop because of permanent small muscle.
How to protect yourself from wrinkles
Avoid spending too much time in the direct sun, especially during the hours when the sun's rays are harshest (between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM). Ultraviolet (UV) rays cause many wrinkles. Sun block helps, but it doesn't block out all the damaging UV rays that cause wrinkles to the skin. Still, if you are outside a lot, be sure to wear a sun block with sun protection factor (SPF) 15 or higher and re-apply often (every 2 to 3 hours). Always re-apply after swimming or playing sports that make you sweaty! Don't go to the tanning salon. The UV light from tanning booths is just as damaging as the sun's - and sometimes worse. The role of the sun cannot be overestimated as the most important cause of prematurely ageing skin (called photoageing) and skin cancers. Overall, exposure to ultraviolet (referred to as UVA or UVB) radiation emanating from sunlight accounts for about 90% of the symptoms of premature skin ageing, and most of these effects occur by age 20.
Don't smoke! Smoking robs your skin of precious moisture and causes premature (early) wrinkles. Most heavy smokers have wrinkles around their mouths.
Moisturize dry skin every day with a hydrating cream or moisturiser, especially during months when the air is drier.
Drink lots of water every day to keep hydrated and help your skin stay moist and smooth.
Treatment of lines and wrinkles
The treatment for facial lines has grown to become one of the most popular cosmetic procedures. It has replaced unnecessary invasive surgical procedures.
The new inject able solutions will attack wrinkles and frown lines. Not only will the negative image of frowning be stopped but also the lines they create will be improved.
Now, you can make these frown lines disappear without surgery and without scars, by a simple treatment.
The same applies to forehead lines and crows' feet. If you can stop the cause of wrinkles then you will help to prevent it from returning or worsening.
Treatment for facial lines
Very small amount of Medicine (Botox) are injected into the required areas using a tiny micro needle with minimal pain. . No sedation or local anaesthesia is required. You may experience some itching over the treated area immediately after treatment. You can resume normal activities immediately.
The muscles are then relaxed preventing contraction, lines and wrinkles. Following the treatment with these injections, the skin over the muscles remains smooth. The effects last four to six months or longer. Also, the duration of effect varies from patient to patient and may be less effective for those over 65 years of age.
This injection is used safely and effectively for over ten years to treat many ophthalmological and neurological disorders. Each year thousands of patients receive these treatments for a variety of conditions and it is quickly becoming a popular treatment for reversing the visible sign of ageing. It is estimated that about 3 million treatments have been used worldwide.
The medicine is used in such small quantities that is not harmful. The most common side effects are temporary and localised bruising, slight redness of the skin and occasionally slight swelling at the injection site. Because the effects of these medicines are completely reversible, any side effects are temporary, lasting only a few hours or up to one or two days.
The results are amazing. it may take two to three days to see an improvement and up to one week to see the overall effects. Then the skin will appear smooth and even showing a youthful glowing appearance. Now you can smile again with confidence.

Dermal Filler
Dermal filler treatments are used to restore bulk to the curves of the face and smooth out wrinkles. The process involves using a very fine needle to inject a hyaluronic acid gel beneath the skin. Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of skin tissue which maintains local moisture content and is gradually reabsorbed over time. For filler treatments it is injected in the form of a transparent viscoelastic gel. The treatment we provide is not of animal origin.
Typically the treatment is used for:
- skin folds and wrinkles around the nose and
/ or mouth
- crows feet around the eyes
- lines and wrinkles on the forehead
- lip augmentation.

The filling effect is immediate after treatment, although it may take a few days (with lip augmentation up to 1 week,) before the injected gel settles to its final effect. Depending upon the area treated, dermal fillers smooth medium to superficial wrinkles, fill out furrows, restore the sensuality of your lips and smooth the curves of your face. The effects of the treatment usually last between six and nine months.
After the treatment some common injection-related reactions may occur, such as swelling, redness, pain, itching, discoloration and tenderness at the implant site. These typically resolve spontaneously within one to two days after injection into the skin and within a week after injection into the lips.
The treatment will not be typically given to:
- Anyone who has received treatment
with a dermal filler in the same area in the past 6 months
- Anyone who is allergic
to hyaluronic acid
- Anyone who is suffering from active cold sores on their face.
People who have previously had cold sores (herpes simplex) should note that there is always a risk that injecting any product around the lips may cause the herpes to flare up again. Anyone taking steroids or anticoagulant medication should be aware that there is an increased risk of bruising at the injection site.
Restylane
Restylane® is based on a non-animal Hyaluronic acid. It works together with the body's own Hyaluronic acid and creates volume and fill in lines.
The Hyaluronic acid in Restylane is almost identical to that naturally found in the body. The product is naturally integrated into the tissue, allowing important nutritive agents to pass freely through the implant and cells to pass between fragments of the gel.
Once in the skin, Restylane works together with the body's own hyaluronic acid and joins forces to create volume. Unlike permanent implants, Restylane always leaves you a choice when the effect of the treatment has worn off.
There are different Restylane preparations. The New Restylane SubQ is the latest innovation for instant shaping of facial contours in chin and cheek augmentations and helps to achieve outstanding facial definition. It is injected deep to skin or above the facial bones. Restylane SubQ is non-animal Hyaluronic acid (gel) and it is ideal to increase volume. It is injected via a syringe to produce instant improvement such as chin or cheek enhancement.
Restylane Vital is another preparation (Non Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid) with a proven track record of more than three million treatments across 70 countries and FDA approved. Restylane Vital marks the start of a whole new approach to skin rejuvenation not only to facial skin but also areas beyond- including neck, décolletage and hands (hands lift).

After the treatment some common injection-related reactions may occur, such as swelling, redness, pain, itching, discoloration and tenderness at the implant site. These typically resolve spontaneously within one to two days after injection into the skin and within a week after injection into the lips.
Other types of reactions are very rare, but about I in 2000 treated patients have experienced localized reactions thought to be of a hypersensitivity nature. These have usually consisted of swelling at the implant site, sometimes affecting the surrounding tissues. Redness, tenderness and rarely acne-like formations have also been reported. These reactions have either started a few days after injection or after a delay of two to four weeks, and have generally been described as mild to moderate and self-limiting with an average duration of two weeks.
How long a treatment holds its effect is very individual. This depends on many factors, such as your age, skin type, life style and muscle activity as well as on the injection technique. The gel particles in RESTYLANE are absorbed so slowly that you have ample time for maintenance treatments. As the gel breaks down, water takes its place. The less concentrated the gel becomes, the more water it is able to bind. These facts are the main reasons that treatments with RESTYLANE products last so long. When totally absorbed the gel disappears unnoticed from the body. Most patients choose to have a follow-up treatment six to twelve months after an initial treatment of wrinkles or facial contouring. After lip treatments, a follow-up is normally needed after about six months. Restylane effects is long-lasting but not permanent.
Sculptra™
Sculptra™ is a new product which has been specially developed to help the body to "fill-in" the lines, wrinkles and depressions which develop naturally over the years.
Sculptra is a polyl-L-lactic acid, which helps to stimulate the body's own production of collagen within the line or wrinkle, making the skin appear smoother and firmer.
Sculptra™ works in the lower layers of the skin in order to smooth and firm the treated areas of the face. Sculptra™ is a unique substance which is gradually and naturally broken down by the body. Sculptra™ is immunology inert, so that no allergy tests are necessary before beginning with treatment.
The number of necessary injections depends on many factors. After the first treatment, your practitioner will recommend whether you need any subsequent treatments and how many these should be. Generally, several treatments can be necessary to obtain the required results. However, in contrast to some other treatments which require frequent refresher sessions, after the end of your Sculptra™ programme the results will last up to 2 years (The results can differ depending on age, wrinkling and the type of procedure used).
The treatment is given by a qualified practitioner who has been trained to use the correct procedure for Sculptra™ performs the treatment. You may feel some discomfort during injecting. It may be that you notice a brief burning sensation at the injection site. An ice packed applied after the treatment will help to calm your skin. If necessary, your practitioner can also give you a local anaesthetic.
Your Healthcare Professional will give you special aftercare instructions. These include massaging the treated areas of your face in the first few days after the treatment. All you need is a few minutes twice a day.
The most common side effect with the use of Sculptra™ include injection-related side effects at the site of injection such as bleeding, tenderness or pain, redness, bruising, or swelling. These effects generally resolve in 2-6 days.
Is Sculptra™ the right treatment for you?
- Have you got deep folds between your nose
and your mouth?
- Have you got folds around the corners of your mouth?
- Have you got
wrinkling in your cheeks or around your chin?
- Have you got sunken cheeks?
- Have
you got any scars?
- Is your skin loose and lacking elasticity?
YOUR FACE is the first thing that people notice about you. But when your appearance no longer reflects how you feel on the inside, it may be time for a change.
In time, your skin loses its full, firm, youthful appearance. This is the result of a natural ageing process. In time, your skin is damaged, becomes thinner or loses its natural elasticity. As a result, it becomes loose and start to wrinkle. Fat tissue which also helps to fill out your face, is lost. This reduction in skin volume can make your face look thin and narrow so that you may possibly look older than you are.
Fortunately, Sculptra™ can help smooth out lines and wrinkles, and restore the lost volume in a natural way.
With poly-L-lactic acid Sculptra™, you can restore facial contour and get rid of disturbing lines and wrinkles without surgery.
Poly-L-lactic acid, the main ingredient of Sculptra™, has been used successfully in surgical procedure for more than 25 years, among others for bioresorbable sutures, in bone plates and screws, and as a medium for medication. Sculptra ™ has been specially developed to repair contour defects in the face. About 150 000 patients have been treated since 1999 world-wide. Sculptra™ is long-lasting and biocompatible and biodegradable.
Unlike surgical options, Sculptra™ can provide gradual, natural-looking results through less traumatic treatment. A clinical study has shown that the aesthetic improvements obtained with Sculptra™ have persisted for up to 2 years in many patients!
